i never am crazy about kids, like some who would rush to hold them & hug & play with them. but now that most of my piano students are kids ranging from 5 to 10, it's really fun to watch their multifarious personalities and ways of dealing when they face difficulty (i.e. when they have to learn a technique or a difficult song). here're some of my observation:
* kids are a lot like puppies that they have funny facial expressions.
* kids like to say, "I don't know."
* kids can be easily misunderstood. sometimes it's our questions that confuse them, not that they don't know the answers.
* kids are forgetful. they'll forget within 5-10 minutes after they get scolded.
Besides,
* kids are like plant that they grow tall fast!
* kids love sparkling juice! they are quite easy to please.
* kids are creative. i have this kid who asked for a small piece of scotch tape while his sister's taking lesson with me. he taped it over his mouth and pretended he's duck-taped by a kidnapper.
* kids get easily comfortable at a place and don't hurry to go home.

Then, it must be your comfortable home.
I want to be a kid and want to stay too.
> kids are creative.
Yes, kids can always think out of the box, not conforming to any norm. If this is a collective description, then we need to think hard why most adults became non-creative -- an devolution rather than an evolution -- the fault of modern education on advocating for critical thinking?
Edward de Bono has a provocative argument: "the human brain is designed to be non-creative... the brain is designed to make stable patterns [based on one’s experience] for dealing with a stable universe. We identify the pattern and then use it." ~ Edward de Bono, 2005
Foon: I am motivated to clean my place regularly because it's used as a teaching studio. Otherwise, it'll be very messy.
Kids don't see the dirts or the dust! I have two kids who would take the cushions from my sofabed, build a fortress, and hide inside.

Provocative it is, have many people countered this? The human development to boxed-thinking may really be a trade-off to survival. It's so sad. This same kid also used a piece of scotch tape to tape it over his eyelid+eyebrow. He said he wanted to isolate and train that part of his face muscle! Mine. He's a 7-year old genius!
At first I couldn't find any support to object de Bono's argument, but now I reckon that whether our brains are "designed to be non-creative" could be argued, but truly it makes itself non-creative for some reason, maybe for survival (but people can also become very creative when they need to survive), maybe simply because our sinful nature makes us lazy to be creative as God wants us to be. Yes, so sad!
You might think because I have a child, I 'naturally' like kids. Nope, still can't handle them, can't deal with them. Well, I can handle and deal with my own child and the good behaving children who are related to me. But I cannot just welcome kids into my house and have them play with Kioni, that will be a big step for me if I indeed can do it someday. It is fine for Kioni to go and play somewhere else, the house is still very much my sanctury, having one loud kid, and a loud husband is already enough. I might sound quite cold to kids, if I offend anyone, sorry, I am not wired to be do 'kids' ministries'.
Amy Lo
You're wired to do all the ministries but not just the kids' ministry.
God bless you and bless you!!
I don't like crowds in real life, but in blog, yes! What a fun crowd here - from 3 different countries.
Amy, with you and me talking more about how we feel about kids, people may begin to think that we hate kids!
3 different countries but 1 heart, haha...
... and one God.
There's always a kid somewhere in everyone heart. Try listen to this song "Grown-up Christmas List". It says alot.
cool lyric! not so much a kid's heart at all - a very big heart. my dream list consists this: everyone would keep that innocent part of him or her alive. YES.
