Researching at home

What am I doing between now and when school begins in September?

JSTOR and YouTube make my life so much easier. I typed a few keywords and landed on Susan McClary's article, published in Cultural Critique in 1986, "A Musical Dialectic from the Enlightenment: Mozart's 'Piano Concerto in G Major, K.453', Movement 2." Not quite remember how Mozart's 2nd movement sounds like? No sweat. Go to YouTube and listen to Dezsö Ránki's performance while reading the scholarly essay -- all done at home.

This way of doing research would be unthinkable 10 years ago!

No la.

I did play a movement of Mozart's piano sonata today ... to analyze its form ... that's for a class.

Wai, how have you been recently?
